EGONE Prize

EGONE is the interactive e-learning portal that is used all over Switzerland by medical students and physicians, in the postgraduate as well as in continuing medical education. Behind the scenes, many colleagues are involved in EGONE: specialists, professors, the JFOR, pnn and, above all, specialist authors who check and update the content of the scripts.  

To honour this great work and to motivate younger specialists to contribute, the EGONE Prize is awarded every year. The winner of the award is selected by the EGONE Chief Editors and the award is presented at the social evening of the SGGG Annual Congress.

This year's EGONE Prize is awarded to the following authors team:

Prof Michael Mueller, president of the EGONE Fachrat and past president of gynécologie suisse SGGG handed over the award to the authors of script “First days of life” (N03) during the social event of the annual congress of gynécologie suisse. The EGONE Prize consists of an invitation to the social evening of the annual congress of gynécologie suisse, certificates and a sum of money. The prize of 2026 was financed by the sponsor Andreabal AG.

Summary script "First days of life" (N03)

The script outlines clinical care for healthy term and late preterm newborns. Delivery room care emphasizes skin-to-skin contact, early feeding, clinical examination, and Ballard scoring for preterm or growth-restricted infants. Transfer to the maternity ward requires gestational age > 34 0/7 weeks and birthweight > 2000 g, with 24/7 rooming-in as standard care. Monitoring includes vital signs, weight loss, voiding within 24 hours, meconium within 48 hours, and bilirubin screening. At-risk newborns—such as late preterms, infants with intrauterine growth restriction, macrosomia, or infection risks—require close monitoring for hypoglycemia, temperature instability, hyperbilirubinemia, and feeding difficulties. Breastfeeding is promoted, alongside Vitamin K and Vitamin D supplementation. Routine screening covers cyanotic congenital heart disease via pulse oximetry, rare diseases via the Guthrie test, hearing loss, and developmental dysplasia of the hip. Common neonatal problems include excessive weight loss, respiratory distress, tremulation, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, birth trauma, umbilical anomalies, heart murmurs, spinal dysraphism, and ankyloglossia.
