Insight into a scientific article: E04 Androgenisation, PCO syndrome and androgen-screting tumours
This chapter is aimed at doctors undergoing specialist training and deals with PCO syndrome, androgen-producing tumours and androgenisation, the latter describing the development of male physical characteristics in women caused by increased androgen levels. Typical symptoms include increased hair growth on the face and body (hirsutism), hair loss on the head (alopecia), a deeper voice, increased muscle mass and changes in skin structure. The chapter shows its diagnosis and treatment options, such as hormonal therapy, anti-androgenic medication and lifestyle adjustments.
